Fresh (Not Frozen) Air Fryer Fries

in

Today, I’ll talk about a delicious alternative to traditional fried fries, allowing you to enjoy a crispy and flavorful dish with less oil. Air fryer fries are a healthier option but still satisfy our cravings for a classic snack or side.

Benefits of air fryer fries: before diving into the preparation of air fryer fries, let me list some of the benefits of this cooking technique:

Less oil: One of the main reasons the air fryer has become so popular is the reduced use of oil. The fries are cooked surrounded by hot air, creating a crispiness similar to traditional fried fries but with significantly less oil intake.

Reduction of calories and fats: thanks to the lesser oil used, air fryer fries contain fewer calories and fats compared to those fried in traditional oil immersion. This makes the air option a healthier choice for those who want to maintain a balanced diet.

Crispiness and flavor: Despite the lower amount of oil, fries cooked in an air fryer maintain a crispy outside texture and a soft inside. This makes the experience of enjoying them equally satisfying, offering delicious flavor.

For this recipe, I used the AIR FRYER.

Ingredients

  • 2.2 lbs potatoes
  • 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • salt (to taste)
  • pepper (if desired)

Tools

  • Air Fryer

Steps

  • Choose the right potatoes: Select good quality potatoes with a thin skin. Start by cleaning the potatoes. Peel them and cut into thin slices or sticks, according to your preference.

  • Peel them and cut into thin slices or sticks, according to your preference. Make sure to cut them evenly to ensure even cooking. Once cut, place the potatoes in a bowl and fill it with cold water. Leave the potatoes immersed in water for about 30 minutes; this will help remove excess starch and make the fries crispier.

  • After soaking time, drain the potatoes and thoroughly dry them with a towel or paper towel. Remove any excess moisture, as water can prevent the fries from cooking correctly. Prepare the air fryer. Turn it on and set it to the recommended temperature, usually around 390°F. While the air fryer is heating up, you can season the fries with your preferred spices or flavors. You can use salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, or other spices to your liking. Mix the fries well to be evenly seasoned. Once the air fryer has reached the desired temperature, place the fries inside the fryer basket. Make sure not to overload the basket and distribute the fries evenly to allow uniform cooking.

  • Close the air fryer and set it on the timer for the recommended cooking time. Typically, fries require 15 to 20 minutes to cook, but the time may vary depending on the size of the potatoes and the power of the air fryer. After about half the cooking time, open the air fryer and gently shake the fries to ensure they cook evenly on both sides. Close the fryer and let them cook until they become crispy and golden brown. Once the fries are ready, carefully remove the basket from the air fryer. Transfer the fries into a bowl and let them cool slightly before serving. You can enjoy the fries as a snack on their own or with sauces like ketchup, mayonnaise, or barbecue sauce. Remember that each air fryer may have specific instructions, so follow the manufacturer’s guidelines for the best results.

Advice and Notes
