Ingredients for 6 Onion Puff Pastries

You will likely not use all prepared onion, especially if using just one sheet of puff pastry. The leftover is delicious even on its own.

  • 1 sheet puff pastry (rectangular)
  • 1.8 oz cream cheese
  • 0.35 oz Grana Padano cheese (or Parmesan)
  • 1 red onion
  • poppy seeds
  • extra virgin olive oil
  • salt
  • black pepper

  • 1 Small Bowl

Preparation of Onion Puff Pastries

  • Peel the onion and slice it into rings.

  • In a skillet, heat a couple of tablespoons of oil and a couple of water and let the onion soften over low heat, seasoning with salt and pepper at the end of cooking. It will take about 7/8 minutes. Turn off the heat and let it cool.

  • Unroll the puff pastry, gently roll over it with a rolling pin, and divide it into 6 rectangles.

  • Then, using the tines of a fork, outline the perimeter of each puff pastry as shown in the photo.

  • In a small bowl, mix the cream cheese with the grated cheese to obtain a cream.

  • Spread this cream inside each puff pastry without crossing the fork’s markings.

  • Place the cooled onion rings over the cream, lightly salt, and sprinkle with poppy seeds.

  • Bake the onion puff pastries in a preheated static oven at 356°F for 15/20 minutes or until they are slightly golden.
