Ingredients for the Puff Pastry Candies with Olives
- 1 sheet puff pastry (rectangular)
- poppy seeds
- 24 stuffed olives with pepper
- milk
- paprika
Tools
- 1 Rolling Pin
- 1 Pizza Cutter smooth edge
- Paper Towel
- 1 Baking Tray
- 1 Small Bowl
- 1 Brush
Preparation of Puff Pastry Candies with Olives
Unroll the rectangle of puff pastry, keeping it on the parchment paper provided in the package. Then sprinkle it with poppy seeds and gently roll over them with the rolling pin to fix them well into the dough.
Then flip the rectangle: the side with the seeds should be underneath.
At this point, use a smooth-edge pizza cutter to cut out rectangles of about 3 × 2 inches. Don’t worry if they’re not perfectly equal; the final result won’t change.
Thoroughly dry the stuffed olives by dabbing them with paper towel.
Place an olive in the center of each rectangle.
Wrap the olive in the puff pastry without closing it completely, then “trap” it by folding the excess dough as shown in the photographs. Basically, fold the excess dough towards the center, then fold the upper dough over it.
Press well at the sides to seal the two ends before twisting them to form the candy shape.
Proceed the same way until all ingredients are used up and place the puff pastry candies with olives on a baking tray lined with parchment paper, keeping them a bit apart as they will puff up during baking.
In a small bowl, mix a few tablespoons of milk with some paprika and brush this mixture over all the candies. If you want to prepare these candies in advance, brush them only before baking.
Bake the puff pastry candies with olives in a preheated static oven at 356°F for 18-20 minutes. Remove from the oven and let them cool slightly before enjoying. Enjoy! Paola.
