Stuffed Waffles with Chocolate Cream

Waffle or gaufre

As reported by Wikipedia “the gaufre is a Belgian and French pastry, crunchy outside and soft inside, cooked on double hot plates that give it the characteristic grid appearance. There are several variations, typical of Belgium, France, Germany, Scandinavia, the Netherlands, and the United States of America”. In this version, I was inspired by a version my mom used to make, small waffles filled with cream and then paired, they were my favorite! Try them!

Ingredients for the Stuffed Waffles with Chocolate Cream:

  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 5 1/2 tbsps butter
  • 3 tbsps cornstarch
  • rum flavor
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/4 cups flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • vanilla
  • salt
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 3 1/2 tbsps milk
  • 2 3/4 tbsps vegetable oil

Steps

  • Chocolate cream preparation:

    In a saucepan, put the sugar, cornstarch, cocoa, and mix. Gradually add the milk, stirring. Heat it up to thicken.

  • Stir occasionally. It will take a few minutes. Once thickened, turn off the heat and add the butter,

  • Add a bit of rum flavor and mix. Cover with plastic wrap and let cool.

    Waffle preparation:

    In a bowl, put the eggs,

  • Add a pinch of salt, sugar, and whisk. Add the milk, oil,

  • Add some vanilla and mix well. Add the baking powder, flour, and mix thoroughly.

  • Heat the waffle iron well, brush with oil, then put some batter inside and spread to cover the entire surface. Close the iron and cook for about 3/4 minutes. Once done, remove them from the iron.

  • Brush again with oil and continue the same way until all the batter is used up. Let them cool well, then fill with cream and pair them.

  • Enjoy!
