Sugar-Free Fig Jam

Sugar-Free Fig Jam

It’s fig season and luckily in Italy, figs can be found almost everywhere. So don’t let them go to waste and make some jams for the winter! Years ago, I had already made a version of Sugar-Free Fig Jam but also using an apple. However, today’s version is only with figs and lemon juice 🍋! Then, if you want to make it with sugar, you can try this version of Vanilla Fig Jam!

Also, try these recipes with figs:

  • Difficulty: Very Easy
  • Cost: Economical
  • Preparation time: 20 Minutes
  • Portions: 2/3
  • Cooking methods: Stovetop
  • Cuisine: Italian
  • Seasonality: Summer

Ingredients for Sugar-Free Fig Jam:

  • 2.2 lbs figs
  • 1 lemon (Zest and juice)
  • 0.85 cups water

Steps

The preparation of sugar-free fig jam is very simple. Watch the video HERE.

  • First, we carefully wash and clean the figs by removing the ends, then cut them into smaller pieces (I used organic figs, so I left the peel, but if they are not organic or you don’t like it, you can easily remove it). Grate the lemon zest on top and add the lemon juice. Add the water.

  • Bring to the heat for about an hour, stirring often to prevent sticking. At the end of cooking, you can leave it with pieces or blend it, depending on how you like it best (I like it blended). Add some more lemon zest and other flavors to taste (vanilla, cinnamon).

  • Once the desired thickness is reached, we put it into previously sterilized jars. Close the lids tightly and turn them upside down to achieve the vacuum effect. If you want to keep it longer, boil the jars again for about 20 minutes. Keep in mind that being sugar-free, the preservation times are much shorter than sugary jam.

  • Enjoy!
