Sweet and Sour Pearl Onions in Air Fryer

The sweet and sour pearl onions in air fryer are a tasty and bold-flavored side dish, perfect to accompany all meat-based main courses or cheeses. For my recipe, I chose Boretto onions, but red Tropea or white onions are also fine. The cooking degree can be subjective: I like the sweet and sour pearl onions in air fryer soft, so I keep them for forty minutes. If you prefer them firmer, 25/30 minutes will be enough. Adjust a bit according to your tastes.

  • 0.42 cup water
  • 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tsp brown sugar
  • to taste salt

Steps

  • Clean the pearl onions by removing the outer layer and roots if present. Transfer them into a bowl and season with all the ingredients required in the recipe. Place them in a tray that fits the air fryer, if you have an oven type, or directly in the basket and cook at 392 °F for 40 minutes if you like them softer or 25/30 minutes if you prefer them crunchy.

Notes

To check the cooking degree, pierce the pearl onions with a fork.
