Puff Pastry Tree with Tomato and Olives

The puff pastry tree with tomato and olives is a tasty and scenic appetizer to kick off the holiday menu.
This is a very simple recipe and, above all, quick to prepare. You will only need a few ingredients: two sheets of puff pastry, some tomato sauce (I used datterini sauce), some black olives, and basil.
You will need to cut pinwheels from the pastry sheets which, once baked in the oven, you will arrange on a tray to form a Christmas tree. Simple, right?

Ingredients for Puff Pastry Tree with Tomato and Olives

  • 2 sheets puff pastry
  • 200 g tomato sauce
  • 80 g black olives
  • leaves basil
  • to taste extra virgin olive oil

Preparation of the Puff Pastry Tree with Tomato and Olives

  • Roll out the two sheets of puff pastry and cut a strip 1 1/4 inches wide from one side of each. From these two strips of pastry, cut out a large star and other smaller ones, using the appropriate cutter.

  • Cover the surface of the puff pastry rectangles with the tomato sauce.

    Distribute the pitted olives, cut in half, over both pastry sheets.

    Finish with pieces of chopped basil.

  • Now roll up the pastry sheets, using the parchment paper provided.

  • Cut each roll into 12 slices (for a total of 24 pinwheels).

    Place them on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Brush with some extra virgin olive oil and bake in a preheated oven at 356°F for 20-25 minutes.

  • Separately, bake the puff pastry stars, also at 356°F for 15 minutes

  • Arrange the puff pastry pinwheels on a round serving platter. Form a pyramid and decorate the top with the largest star. Complete the decoration with the smaller stars and a few whole black olives.
