Perfect limoncello recipe. Limoncello is the typical liqueur of the Amalfi Coast known worldwide. An intense aroma and a delightful yellow color make this liqueur irresistible. Perfect to enjoy on its own or with a variety of desserts, and even try it on ice cream! Practically only 4 ingredients: ethyl alcohol, sugar, water, and delicious organic lemons where we only use the untreated peel. A 15-day infusion of lemon peels in alcohol where they release all the essential oils for a fantastic aroma and taste. I recommend not to miss the recipe for Chocolate Liqueur and the recipe for Licorice Liqueur. Its origin dates back to the early 1900s in a small pension in Capri, where Mrs. Maria Antonia Farace tended a lush garden of lemons and oranges. After the war, her grandson served in his bar the lemon liqueur made with his grandmother’s old recipe. In 1988, her son Massimo Canale started a small artisanal production of Limoncello, registering the trademark. But Amalfi and Sorrento also claim its origins. So, let’s hurry into the kitchen and prepare Homemade Limoncello together

How to make Limoncello at home
To prepare this liqueur, you need untreated lemons, fresh and with thick peels. I recommend choosing nice organic lemons, preferably with leaves attached as they are always a sign of freshness. Choose bright yellow lemons, not green ones. Wash the lemons under running water, preferably scrubbing the peel with a brush.
Remove the peel, only the yellow part. You can use a peeler or a sharp knife. Place the lemon peels in a large jar or a wide-mouth bottle. Pour the 95-96° alcohol over them. Close and shake the jar or bottle. Store the preparation in a dark place, such as a kitchen cabinet. It should rest for 15 days, remembering to shake the jar at least once a day.
After 15 days, you can proceed with the preparation of Limoncello Liqueur. Pour the water and sugar into a saucepan. Bring to a boil and turn off the heat. Let it cool completely. Filter the alcohol, removing the lemon peels, and mix it with the sugared water.
Mix well and transfer the Limoncello into 2 clean bottles. Store the liqueur in a cool place, such as a pantry, fridge, or freezer. You can enjoy it right away or let it rest for a few more days.

For a stronger flavored liqueur, you can decrease the amount of water.
