The recipe I want to share with you today is that of a soft and fluffy Nutella-filled braid perfect for breakfast. A very soft dough that I filled with a delicious hazelnut cream and braided to form an irresistible Nutella braided brioche. Ingredients for the Braided Bread with Nutella

  • 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup milk (lukewarm)
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 1/4 tsp fresh yeast
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/2 lemon zest
  • 7 oz Nutella®
  • 3 tbsps milk (for brushing)
  • 3 tbsps sugar (for decoration)
  • as needed powdered sugar (for decoration)

How to prepare the Soft Braided Bread with Nutella

  • You can prepare the dough by hand or with the help of a mixer. Dissolve the yeast in the lukewarm milk. Add the sugar and stir. Add the flour, the softened butter in small pieces, and the grated zest of half an untreated lemon.

  • Knead well and for a long time until you have a soft and elastic dough that is not sticky. Transfer the dough to a bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for 3-4 hours.

  • Take the risen dough and roll it out on a lightly floured work surface, or as I did, directly on a sheet of parchment paper, to form a large rectangle about 1/8-1/4 inch thick. To make the Nutella more fluid, you can heat the jar in a bain-marie or in the microwave. Spread the Nutella with a spatula over the entire surface.

  • Braid the 2 parts together with the cut side facing up. Transfer the filled braid to a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Let rise in a warm place for one hour.

  • Brush with milk and decorate with granulated sugar. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Bake the Soft Braided Bread with Nutella in the hot oven on convection mode for 23-25 minutes. Let cool and decorate as desired with powdered sugar.

Loredana’s Tips

You can prepare the braid in the evening and let it rise all night in the oven to bake it in the morning, so you have a special breakfast. In this case, reduce the amount of yeast to 3-4 grams

The braid stays soft for 2-3 days in a container or a food bag. You can also freeze it. Just reheat it for a few minutes in the hot oven or microwave.
