Steps for Preparing Cheesy Baked Fusilli
To prepare the delicious cheesy baked fusilli, start by washing the zucchini and then slicing them thinly and lengthwise with a mandoline and chopping half an onion.
Then, in a pan, pour a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil, heat it, and add the chopped onion and the sliced zucchini, sauté until golden.
Meanwhile, cook the fusilli in a pot with plenty of water for a few minutes. The cooking should be al dente.
Then, drain and place in a baking dish.
Grate the smoked provola with a grater, and add it along with the zucchini, grated Parmesan, and tomato sauce to the fusilli. Ensure the ingredients are evenly distributed among the pasta. Dress with extra virgin olive oil and mix everything well. Further sprinkle some grated cheese on top of the pasta. This will form a delicious cheesy crust once baked.
Bake at 350°F for about 20-25 minutes or until the cheese on top is golden and crispy. Once cooked, serve the cheesy baked fusilli hot, perhaps garnished with a few fresh basil leaves for an extra touch of freshness.
Enjoy from Barbara!
Storage and Tips
The cheesy baked fusilli can be stored in the fridge for two days. Before serving, reheat in the oven at 320°F for about 10 minutes.
Opt for fusilli or other types of short pasta that will hold the sauce and cheese well during baking.
