How to make Apple and Chocolate Tartlets
You can prepare the shortcrust pastry by hand or with the help of a mixer. Pour the flour, sugar, and softened butter in small cubes into a bowl.
Simply mix with a fork to combine the butter with the flour and sugar.
Add the egg and the grated zest of half an untreated orange. Knead well first with the fork and then with your hands until you have a soft, non-sticky dough.
Form a dough ball. Wrap it in plastic wrap and let it rest in the fridge for at least 30 minutes. You can also prepare it in advance and store it in the fridge for 1-2 days.
While the shortcrust pastry rests in the fridge, prepare the filling. Peel the apples, clean them, and cut them first into slices and then into small cubes.
Place the apples in a bowl, add the brown sugar and the cinnamon.
Add the chocolate in small pieces and the coarsely chopped walnuts. Mix.
Roll out the shortcrust pastry on the floured work surface to a thickness of 0.16 inches. Use a round cutter with a diameter of 3.15 inches to cut out 10 discs.
Line the silicone or disposable aluminum molds with the shortcrust pastry discs. Prick the bottom with a fork.
Divide the filling into the molds. Use the leftover shortcrust pastry to make stars. Place each star on top of the filling.
Decorate each star with brown sugar. Bake the Apple and Chocolate Tartlets in a preheated static oven at 356°F for 25 minutes. Let them cool before removing them from the molds and sprinkle with powdered sugar if desired.
