RED LENTIL BURGERS how to make everyone eat lentils

Red lentil burgers, the recipe for a light main course and something special. Recently, I’ve enjoyed experimenting with light recipes of vegetables or legumes because it’s always a good idea to take care of our health, and also to bring a light yet delicious recipe to the table. The recipe I want to share with you today is a recipe with red lentils that is simple to prepare and delicious. I simply soaked the red lentils in water, then blended them, and with the addition of a few other ingredients, I made some delicious legume burgers. I served them with a fresh salad, but they’re also perfect for stuffing a vegetarian sandwich that will surely win over the little ones who often resist eating lentils. For this recipe, I used small split red lentils, but if you prefer, classic lentils work fine too, although they require pre-cooking. Among all types of lentils, split red lentils, which have had their outer skin removed, are the quickest to prepare and easiest to digest. This process makes them more digestible, cook faster, and are suitable even for those with digestive issues. Lentils are legumes that contain high amounts of plant proteins, carbohydrates, fiber, B vitamins, and minerals, which is why it’s a good habit to include them in our diet at least once a week. So, let’s run to the kitchen and prepare some delicious red lentil burgers together.

How to prepare red lentil burgers

  • To prepare the burgers, there’s no need to pre-cook the lentils, just wash them and soak them in a bowl covered with water for about 4 hours or more. After soaking, drain the lentils and pour them into a mixer or blender.

  • Add the peeled and chopped carrots, the cleaned and sliced onion, and a pinch of salt. Blend until you have a smooth mixture. Transfer the mixture to a bowl and add 2-4 tablespoons of breadcrumbs to solidify the mixture. Mix well.

  • Now, all you have to do is form the lentil burgers. You can use the classic hamburger press, a round pastry ring, or simply a glass. Form the burgers, sprinkling the work surface with a dusting of breadcrumbs to prevent them from sticking.

  • Form the Burgers and then coat them all over in breadcrumbs. After preparing them, you can simply store them in the fridge in a container, freeze them, or cook them directly. I cooked them in a pan with a splash of extra virgin olive oil; but you can also cook them in the oven or in an air fryer.
