CHRISTMAS SANDWICHES the perfect appetizer for the Holidays

Christmas Sandwiches shaped like a delightful gift package. It’s never too early to start thinking about some special ideas for the Holidays. So today I want to tell you how I prepared some delicious and tasty Christmas Sandwiches. Festively dressed Stuffed Canapés decorated as if they were gift packages. Three different fillings and you can prepare your Sandwich Packages in different sizes for a beautiful scenic effect that can enrich the Holiday table and also perfect as a tasty Christmas centerpiece. You can prepare them in advance and store them in a container, wrapped in plastic wrap or, as a neighbor of mine who had a bar taught me many years ago, simply covered with a damp napkin, so they will stay soft and moist. For the Holiday Sandwiches I used 3 different fillings: cooked ham, zucchini pesto, and Russian salad, but feel free to vary them according to your tastes. I also recommend reading the recipe for my Salmon Christmas Log perfect for a special appetizer. Let’s head to the kitchen and prepare the Stuffed Christmas Sandwiches together.

Ingredients for the Christmas Canapés

  • 4 slices long bread for sandwiches
  • 4.23 oz cooked ham
  • 7.05 oz Russian salad
  • 1.10 lbs zucchini
  • 3 tbsps extra virgin olive oil
  • 1.06 oz grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1.41 oz mayonnaise
  • 1/2 tsp coarse salt

How to prepare the Christmas Sandwiches

  • Wash the zucchini. Use a vegetable peeler to get very thin slices lengthwise, you’ll need them to decorate the sandwiches simulating ribbons. You’ll need about 2-4 slices for each sandwich, depending on the length of your zucchini.

  • Prepare the zucchini pesto, you can also do it in advance and store it in the fridge in a container. After preparing enough zucchini slices to decorate the packages, cut the remaining zucchini and scraps into small pieces and transfer them to the container of an immersion blender.

  • Add the coarse salt, extra virgin olive oil, and grated Parmesan cheese. Blend until you get a delicious zucchini cream. Cut the slices of sandwich bread into squares of the size you want for the Packages. I cut squares of 2.4 inches and others larger at 3.5 inches, but you can make them in the sizes you prefer.

  • Now you just need to assemble the sandwiches by layering the Russian salad, cooked ham, and mayonnaise, and the zucchini cream. You can make 2 or 3 layers as you prefer. Finally, arrange the zucchini slices to simulate a ribbon and secure them in the center with a wooden toothpick.

  • Decorate as you like with pitted olives, rolled strips of cooked ham, or small cherry tomatoes. I also added fennel fronds, but you can get creative as you like. Prepare them all and store them in a container or covered with plastic wrap or a damp and wrung-out napkin.

See you tomorrow with a new recipe, a hug, Loredana
