Befanotti typical cookie recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3.5 oz butter
  • 0.88 oz lard
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 drops vanilla (or vanillin)
  • Half packet baking powder
  • lemon zest
  • 1 egg yolk
  • milk
  • colored sprinkles
  • pine nuts

Steps

  • Take the butter out of the fridge to soften it a bit.

  • Separate the yolks from the whites and beat the whites until stiff peaks form.

  • Place the flour in a fountain shape on the work surface, in the center add the yolks beaten with a fork, the sugar, and start working.

  • Add the butter, lard, flour, lemon zest, baking powder, and vanilla.

  • Finally add the egg whites, work the dough quickly, form a dough ball, cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 40 minutes.

  • After the time has passed, turn on the oven and roll out the pastry, cut the cookies with cutters, I cut out an Epiphany witch shape with a piece of paper after drawing the outline.

  • Brush with a mixture of egg yolk, milk, sugar, and vanilla flavor, decorate with colored sprinkles and pine nuts.

  • Bake in a hot oven at 350°F for about 15 minutes.
