Ingredients for Tuna and Caper Rolls

  • 2 slices Whole Wheat Bread (use crustless sandwich bread with rectangular slices)
  • 1 tbsp Pickled Capers
  • 3.2 oz Tuna in Oil
  • 1 tbsp Mayonnaise

Tools

  • Bowl
  • Spoon
  • Knife
  • Parchment Paper
  • Plastic Wrap

Preparation of Tuna and Caper Rolls

  • Place the slices of whole wheat bread on parchment paper side by side with the longer sides touching. Cover them with another sheet of parchment paper and, using a rolling pin, press them well and set aside covered.

  • Take a cutting board and a sharp knife and finely chop the capers (after squeezing them) and the tuna (after draining it), into very fine pieces and place this mixture in a bowl. (It’s better to chop by hand because using a processor would create a smooth paste, which isn’t practical for this recipe)

  • Add the mayonnaise to the tuna and caper mixture and mix well to combine everything thoroughly.

  • Retrieve the pressed bread and spread the prepared mixture over it, covering the entire surface. Roll it up starting from the narrower side to form a log, wrap the bread roll in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 1 hour before slicing.

  • After the resting time in the fridge, retrieve the roll and cut it into slices approximately 1 inch (2.5 cm) wide (makes 6 pieces). Serve the rolls with a good aperitif and voilà, you’re done! Enjoy your meal!

Useful Tips

You can store the tuna and caper rolls in the fridge wrapped in plastic wrap until serving. You can add 3 anchovies in oil (regular or spicy) to the filling for a stronger flavor. You can also add some chives.
