Scotch Eggs Recipe

  • Start preparing the Scotch eggs by boiling the hard-boiled eggs.
Place 4 of the eggs provided (the fifth will be used for breading) in a small pot and cover them with water.
Boil them for a total of 13 minutes.

  • Drain the hard-boiled eggs into a bowl of ice water and let them cool.
Peel them and set them aside.

  • Season the ground pork with salt and pepper.
Divide it into four portions and shape each into a large meatball.

  • Roll the hard-boiled eggs in flour.

  • Flatten the ground pork meatballs to form a disc.

  • Place a floured hard-boiled egg in the center and wrap it in the ground meat just like with a meatloaf.

  • Press the meatball well between your hands to seal it, then roll it in the beaten egg.

  • Season the breadcrumbs with salt, black pepper, and sage.
Use it as a breading for the Scotch eggs.
Coat each meatball well on all sides.

  • It’s time to cook the Scotch eggs.
You can deep fry them in oil at 356°F for about ten minutes or bake them in the oven at 392°F for 20-25 minutes.

  • I cooked them in an air fryer at 356°F for 18 minutes.
Once ready, serve the Scotch eggs hot with a fresh salad or your favorite side dish!

  • How do I prevent the meat from coming off the egg during cooking?

Make sure to compact the meat well around the egg and seal it carefully before breading. If necessary, keep the breaded eggs in the refrigerator for 15-20 minutes before cooking: it will help keep them compact.

  • Can I prepare them in advance?

Yes, you can prepare them in advance and store them in the refrigerator for 2 days. I recommend reheating them in the oven or air fryer to make them crispy again.

  • Can Scotch eggs be frozen?

Yes, you can freeze them either raw or cooked. If you freeze them raw, thaw them in the fridge before frying. If you freeze them already cooked, heat them in the oven at 356°F for 10-15 minutes to make them crispy again.
