Sweet and Sour Chicken Strips in Air Fryer

Today, with this recipe for Sweet and Sour Chicken Strips cooked in the air fryer, I bring you to the East. A dish made of chicken strips or bites, wrapped in spicy batter, cooked in the air fryer and then browned with their sweet and sour sauce. The original recipe calls for frying in a pan with plenty of oil, but I adapted the cooking for the air fryer achieving a great result, without sacrificing taste and crunchiness, only limiting to a few sprays of oil. And while the chicken “fries”, you can prepare the sweet and sour sauce on the stove. As soon as the chicken is nicely golden, combine it with the sauce, add the sesame seeds, and the dish is ready… believe me, it’s easier done than said!

Ingredients for 250g (8.8 oz) chicken strips

  • 8.8 oz chicken (strips or bites)
  • 1/3 cup flour
  • 3.4 tbsp cold water
  • 1 tsp spicy paprika
  • 1 garlic powder (the tip of a teaspoon)
  • to taste salt and pepper
  • 3 tbsp ketchup
  • Half tsp spicy paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic (level coffee spoons)
  • 1 tbsp honey (wildflower or acacia)
  • 2.1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 3.4 tbsp water
  • to taste sesame seeds

What you need to prepare Sweet and Sour Chicken Strips in Air Fryer

  • 1 Bowl
  • 1 Food scale
  • 1 Liquid measuring cup
  • 1 Teaspoon
  • 1 Wok or large pan
  • 1 Wooden spoon
  • 1 Air fryer

Steps

  • Combine the chicken, flour, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in a bowl.

  • Mix well with a spoon.

  • Now add the water and mix again; you will get a compact batter, not liquid.

  • Transfer the chicken strips to the tray or the air fryer rack and give a few sprays of oil.

  • Cook at 392°F for 10 minutes, shaking a couple of times for even cooking.

  • A nice golden crust should form.

  • While the chicken cooks, prepare the sweet and sour sauce, pouring all the sauce ingredients into the wok or pan.

  • Mix and bring to a boil. Stir until the sauce thickens.

  • Lower the heat to the minimum and add the chicken, mixing well.

  • Turn off the heat and add the sesame seeds, mixing again.

  • Transfer the chicken to a serving plate. Your Sweet and Sour Chicken Strips are ready to be enjoyed. You can also serve them accompanied by soy sauce.
