Bread Pockets in Air Fryer

The bread pockets in the air fryer are a fun way to use sandwich bread or white bread. The bread is flattened with a rolling pin, filled as desired, then dipped in egg and breadcrumbs before being air-fried with a few sprays of oil, perfect for kids.

Quick to prepare and cook, bread pockets are ideal for a quick lunch or an appetizer. Everyone will love them, especially the children.

For this recipe, I used classic long sandwich bread that I cut in half and filled with robiola cheese, speck, and sweet provolone slices. They’re also great with cooked ham and sliced fontina cheese. You have to try them because they’re so good and beautifully crunchy!!

Besides bread pockets, also perfect for an appetizer or buffet are the Stuffed Potato Panzerotti in Air Fryer and the Savory Plumcake in Air Fryer, which can be filled with whatever you prefer or have at home.

  • Flatten it well with the rolling pin

  • With a knife, cut it in half. If using square slices, skip this step

  • Now spread the robiola cheese covering the entire slice

  • And finally the slice of provolone

  • Fold the slice of bread in half and seal it with your fingers

  • Beat the eggs in a deep plate or bowl and prepare the breadcrumbs in another

  • Dip the pockets well in the egg

  • Now coat them in breadcrumbs. Use your hands to compact well and go over the edges again to seal them further and prevent the filling from leaking during cooking

  • If using an oven-style air fryer, lightly oil the tray you will use to cook the pockets and give a few sprays of oil. If using a drawer-style air fryer, spray the pockets with oil on both sides and place them directly on the drawer grill

  • Cook at 356°F for 11 minutes. Then increase to 392°F and continue for 2 minutes to add more crunch. Adjust according to your fryer. If necessary, turn them halfway or in the last minutes for even cooking

  • Delicious!!!

You can prepare the bread pockets in advance and cook them when needed. If they are already cooked and you have leftovers, you can store them in the fridge covered with plastic wrap or aluminum foil and reheat them in the air fryer for a few minutes at 338°F
