Caramelized Apples in Air Fryer

The caramelized apples in an air fryer are one of those desserts that you can prepare in just a few minutes and have become my favorite evening treat.

Very easy to make and very economical, this delicious dessert is prepared by coring the apple, which is usually filled with brown sugar, raisins, and little else.

The beauty of caramelized apples is that they can be cooked in advance and then reheated in the microwave for a few seconds or in a bain-marie and served as a dessert, an evening treat, or in the morning for breakfast or a snack.

Thanks to the air fryer cooking, the cooking times are halved, and the caramel that forms during cooking becomes an irresistible delight.

As you will see by reading the ingredients, I use very little sugar, and the final result, thanks to the natural sweetness of the apples, is really pleasant and not at all cloying.

Ingredients

  • 2 apples
  • 1 teaspoon raw brown sugar
  • ground cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons chopped hazelnuts

Tools

  • Apple corer

Steps

  • Wash and dry the apples, then slice off the tops and set them aside.

  • Use the apple corer to hollow out the apples without going all the way through, otherwise, the filling will spill out.

  • Prepare the filling by mixing the brown sugar, cinnamon, and chopped hazelnuts to combine the ingredients.

  • Fill the apple cavities, sprinkle with cinnamon to taste, and cover with the tops. (To prevent the tops from falling off, you can insert a toothpick, which should be removed after cooking).

  • Place the apples in the air fryer basket and cook at 356°F (180°C) for about 20 minutes. (For oven baking, calculate almost double the time).

  • Once out of the air fryer, garnish with a little chopped hazelnuts and cinnamon.

Tricks and Tips:

If the stems detach from the tops, do not discard them but use them to decorate the apples at the end of cooking by repositioning them.

The caramel that forms during cooking can be used to drizzle over the apples. If you have air fryer-safe containers, use them during cooking to make it easier to recover the caramel.

Storage:

If you don’t consume them immediately, store the apples in the fridge and then heat them for a few minutes in the microwave or in the air fryer at a low temperature for no more than 5 minutes.
