How to Clean Frozen Prawns with Shell TUTORIAL

  • Cleaning frozen prawns with shell is easier than you think, I’ll explain it with a simple tutorial.

  • Get a pair of scissors, a toothpick, and if you like, a pair of gloves.

After letting the prawns defrost for half an hour, rinse them under running water and proceed with cleaning.

First, remove all the prawn’s antennae. Then cut the first ring below the head, as you can see from the image. The prawn has a line at the center of its tail; use the toothpick to go just inside and pull it out to remove the black vein, which is the prawn’s intestine.

That’s it! The frozen prawn retains its shell, remains perfect, and is ready to be cooked!

  • This recipe is certainly the simplest, in my opinion, also the most delicious and convenient way to cook frozen or fresh prawns with shell, even on special and important days.

While you enjoy your first course with your guests, they will be ready in 15 minutes, and you can place them in a baking tray to marinate even 2-3 hours before baking.

After cleaning the frozen prawns with shell, place the prawns on a large baking tray or the oven tray, sprinkle with salt and pepper.

  • Blend the parsley with olive oil, add the juice of one lemon, and blend until you create almost a creamy sauce. If it’s too thick, you can add a little more oil or a few tablespoons of water.

Pour this parsley sauce over the prawns, especially at the incision where you removed the intestine.

At this point, you can refrigerate and marinate the prawns for one or two hours or proceed directly with cooking.

Just bake them at 392°F for about 15 minutes. You don’t need to move or turn them over.

Serve the frozen oven-baked prawns with shell hot, accompanied by a simple salad or a rich potato salad like Pantesca salad or the classic and delicious fennel and orange salad.

  • Many avoid eating prawns with shell because they prefer not to get their hands dirty, missing out on this absolute delight, yet just knowing a few steps allows you to eat prawns with shell using cutlery.

  • You will simply need a knife and a fork.

First, remove the head, just apply slight pressure to detach it from the tail.

Insert the fork into the area where the small legs are present.

Insert the tip of the knife between the carapace rings and apply slight pressure upwards to widen the rings until you feel them detach. Do this along the entire carapace, and at the end, you will see that the prawn meat, clean and perfect for enjoying in one bite, will remain attached to the fork!

    I hope I’ve been helpful…
