Stale Bread Pizza – in Air Fryer or Oven

The stale bread “pizza” is a quick and easy idea, ideal for last-minute lunches or dinners, but most importantly, it is an anti-waste recipe or recycling: it uses exactly the leftover stale bread. Instead of throwing it away, we’ll use it to make this delicious and at the same time very tasty recipe. It almost looks like a pizza, although definitely quicker to make. In fact, it takes just a few minutes to make, and the cooking is equally fast.

We can choose to cook it in the oven or in the air fryer: in this case, it will be ready in even less time. Alternatively, we can also make it in a pan, just use the lid. Below you will find all the cooking methods specified.

Ingredients

  • 4 slices stale bread
  • 7 oz tomato sauce
  • 2 oz mozzarella
  • to taste extra virgin olive oil
  • to taste salt
  • to taste oregano

Steps

  • To make the “stale bread pizza, first slice the bread. If you’re using the air fryer, place them on a parchment paper tray (this way, if any cheese drips, it won’t be lost under the basket holes), while if you prefer to use the oven, place the bread slices on a baking tray (I’ll leave an additional explanation for the pan below). They should be placed close together to form a pizza. Separately, mix the tomato sauce with a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil, a pinch of salt, and oregano. Spread the sauce over the bread slices.

    Then do this first cooking: in the air fryer at 375°F for 7 minutes, or in the oven at 392°F for 10-12 minutes.

  • Meanwhile, grate the mozzarella (I used the one for pizza that doesn’t release liquid). Take the bread pizza and add the mozzarella, then continue cooking for another 2 minutes in the air fryer or 4 in the oven.
    For pan cooking: place the bread slices and spread the sauce on top. Start cooking on a very low flame for about 8 minutes. At this point, add the mozzarella and continue cooking, this time with the lid.
    And here is this stale bread “pizza”, perfect for any lunch or dinner. Enjoy your meal!
