- Difficulty: Easy
- Cost: Affordable
- Preparation time: 10 Minutes
- Cooking methods: Air Frying
- Cuisine: Italian
- Seasonality: Christmas, Fall, Winter
Ingredients
- 1 sheet rectangular puff pastry
- 1 egg
- as needed Nutella (or other hazelnut spread)
- as needed powdered sugar
Tools
- Air Fryer
Steps
Open a sheet of rectangular puff pastry and spread Nutella (or other hazelnut spread) on half of the pastry. Fold over the other half to close it. At this point, you just have to create the tree: it’s very easy, just make some cuts at the bottom for the trunk, then two diagonal lines upwards to form the tree. With the sides, you can make stars, one of which to use as the tree’s topper. Remove the scraps and leave only the tree.
Make horizontal cuts and fold each branch in an S shape. Just place the star on top, and the tree is ready.
*In this way, you’ll have made a tree of the size suitable for the air fryer.
Brush the egg on the surface and transfer it to the air fryer. To prevent the parchment paper from catching fire if it comes into contact with the heating element, just cut the paper following the shape of the tree, so there will be no excess edges.
Cook in the air fryer at 338°F for 20 minutes; halfway through, turn the tree and continue cooking, so it will be perfectly cooked both above and below.
You can also cook it in a hot oven at 356°F for about 30-35 minutes.
Once ready, let it cool and sprinkle the surface with powdered sugar. Enjoy your meal!
Tips for You
✔ If you are going to bake it in the oven, you can also use two sheets by spreading Nutella over the entire surface of the first sheet and placing the second sheet on top. Everything else will be the same; it will just be double the size.
✔ You can use the cream you prefer, not only hazelnut but also other flavors.
✔ You can use all the scraps to create new shapes or other stars like I did.
✔ Worried the parchment paper might catch fire? Follow this clever tip: cut the paper following the shape of the tree, so there will be no excess edges in contact with the heating element, and you’re done!
✔ For this recipe, I used the COSORI 5.5 air fryer, mine in a red version. You can find it on Amazon by clicking here.
