No-Yeast Air Fryer Buns

The no-yeast buns are super easy to make and especially quick: in just a few minutes they’re ready to be filled as we like. How often do we find ourselves without bread at home? With this recipe, you’ll have small buns ready in a few minutes for your lunch or dinner. The ingredients are very simple: just flour, water, EVO oil, salt, and instant yeast for savory preparations.

You can bake the no-yeast buns in the air fryer, for a faster bake, or in the oven by increasing the time. You’ll find all the instructions below in the procedure. The no-yeast buns are crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, a delight. They are perfect if you want bread at the last minute or if you don’t have much time available. With these quantities, you will get 2 buns, but you can double or multiply the quantities as you like.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (or whole grain, 0, 1)
  • 1/4 cup water (room temperature)
  • 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 0.2 oz instant yeast for savory preparations
  • as needed water or milk to brush
  • as needed sesame seeds (or any seeds you prefer)

Steps

  • In a bowl, pour the flour, the instant yeast for savory preparations, the salt, and mix. Add the water and EVO oil; continue to mix and work the dough with your hands inside the bowl, until you obtain a homogeneous dough ball. You can also work it for a few minutes on a work surface to make it even smoother. Let the dough rest for about 10 minutes.

  • Divide it into two and form balls, giving them a slightly flattened shape like buns.

    Brush the surface with water or milk, and also add sesame seeds (or chia seeds, or any you prefer).

  • Cook in a hot air fryer (preheated 3 minutes before) at 356°F for about 13-15 minutes, turning them over 5 minutes before they are done. Or you can bake them in a hot oven at 374°F for 25 minutes.

    Open the buns and fill as you prefer. Enjoy your meal!

Tips for You

✔ For even softer buns, you can replace water with milk in the dough.

✔ Since they are no-yeast buns, you need instant yeast, but if you wish, you can use brewer’s yeast (0.35 oz fresh or 0.14 oz dry) and let the dough rise until it doubles (about 2-3 hours, depending on the temperature).

✔ As you’ve seen, there’s no need to use parchment paper to bake buns in the air fryer, just place them directly in the perforated basket: this way the air passes freely through the holes, and the cooking will be faster and more even. However, you must turn the buns halfway through cooking to brown the underside well.

✔ Alternatively, they can be baked in a hot oven by increasing the temperature and time (see the indications above in the recipe).
