The apple donuts are delicate, delicious, and can be prepared in a few minutes. They can be baked in the oven or, as in this case, cooked in an air fryer. To make them, we just need some apples, puff pastry, sugar or erythritol (zero calories), cinnamon powder, and milk or plant-based drink to brush the pastry. The apple donuts are extremely easy to make, they will surprise you! And everyone will love them, believe me: they’ll want seconds!
This recipe is fun to make precisely due to its simplicity. The apples will be super soft inside, and have a crunchiness outside that will win you over. The apple donuts are perfect all year round, but especially for Christmas or Carnival. They can also be made as a tasty snack or dessert to bring to friends’ and family gatherings.

Ingredients
- 4 apples
- 1 roll rectangular puff pastry
- to taste plant-based drink or milk
- to taste ground cinnamon
- to taste erythritol or sugar
Tools
- Air Fryer
Steps
First, peel the apples. Alternatively, you can leave the skin on, depending on your preference. Slice the apples into rounds about 1/2 inch thick. Remove the core using a knife or a bottle cap. The hole should be at least 3/4 inch thick, making it easier to insert the pastry.
Unroll a rectangular puff pastry and cut it into strips about 1/2 inch wide. Take the apples and wrap a strip starting from the center and passing it through the hole. You don’t have to completely cover the apple, you can leave a few millimeters uncovered between rounds. If needed, use 2 strips for each apple slice.
In a plate, mix the erythritol or sugar with the cinnamon powder. In a glass, pour the plant-based drink you prefer or some milk. Brush the surface of the pastry-covered apples with milk and roll them in the sugar and cinnamon mixture. Brush the other side and do the same, making sure it sticks well on the sides too.
Transfer the apple donuts into the air fryer and cook at 356°F for 15 minutes, flipping them halfway through. Alternatively, bake them in the oven at 356°F for 20-25 minutes. Once ready, if you like, you can roll them again in sugar and cinnamon.
Serve hot or cold, they are always delicious! Enjoy your meal.
Tips for You
✔ You can choose to use sugar or, as I did, erythritol, which is calorie-free and much lighter. You can find it on Amazon by clicking here.
✔ For this recipe, it is necessary to cook the apple donuts directly in the basket of the air fryer without trays or parchment paper: this way they will cook thanks to the air circulating 360 degrees from bottom to top, allowing for ideal air frying. Trays or parchment paper in this case would hinder the air circulation inside the air fryer.
✔ I recommend using the BBQ mesh to insert directly into the non-stick basket of your air fryer: the mesh protects the non-stick surface of the basket (which will stay as new) and allows food to cook evenly, letting air pass through 360 degrees. You can find it on Amazon by clicking here.
✔ Alternatively, you can use perforated parchment paper, which allows air to pass from bottom to top. You can find it on Amazon by clicking here: link.
✔ For this recipe, I used the air fryer COSORI Dual Blaze 6.4 L, with upper and lower resistance. You can find it here: link.
