Savory croissants are easy to make, they can be prepared in 5 minutes with only 1 ingredient. They can be baked in an oven or an air fryer, in which case the temperature and cooking time are reduced.
The savory croissants are perfect to eat as they are or can be filled with whatever filling you like. For example, I chose a filling of cream cheese, smoked salmon, and arugula, but any filling would work.
Savory croissants are perfect for a last-minute lunch or dinner, or for a buffet or party. In this case, we are making 8 croissants with one roll of puff pastry, but we can also make mini croissants (even smaller) by dividing the pastry into 12 parts. Additionally, you can always double or multiply the quantities to get as many croissants as you need.
Below you will find the recipe with step-by-step instructions for both oven and air fryer cooking.

- Difficulty: Easy

- Preparation time: 5 Minutes
- Portions: 8 croissants
- Cooking methods: Air Frying
- Cuisine: Italian
- Seasonality: All seasons
Ingredients
- 1 roll round puff pastry
- to taste milk or plant-based drink (for brushing)
- to taste sesame seeds
Tools
- Air Fryer
Steps
Open a roll of round puff pastry and cut it into 8 parts: make a vertical line, a horizontal one, then a diagonal to the right and one to the left. You will get 8 slices.
Roll each slice starting from the wider part to the narrower one, forming croissants.
Transfer the croissants to the basket of the air fryer, brush the surface with milk and sprinkle with sesame seeds. Cook the croissants in the air fryer at 356°F for about 20 minutes turning them when 5 minutes remain, or in a hot oven at 374°F for about 30-35 minutes. Let them cool. Now you can open them and fill them as you like! I used a filling of cream cheese, smoked salmon, and arugula.
IF YOU WANT TO MAKE “MINI” CROISSANTS:
Divide the pastry into 12 slices, making a vertical line, a horizontal one, then two diagonals to the right and two to the left. This way you will get smaller croissants. Cook them reducing the cooking time by a few minutes either in the oven or in the air fryer.
Tips for you
✔ Savory croissants can be stored in the refrigerator for about 2-3 days, in an airtight container.
✔ You can choose the filling and seasoning you prefer.
✔ Check the cooking: they may cook in less time or require a few more minutes.
✔ I recommend using the BBQ mesh to place directly in your air fryer’s non-stick basket: the mesh protects the non-stick surface (keeping it like new) and allows the food to cook evenly, letting air pass through 360 degrees. You can find it on Amazon by clicking here.
✔ Alternatively, you can use the perforated parchment paper, which allows air to pass from below to above. You can find it on Amazon by clicking here: link.
✔ For this recipe, I used the SEVERIN 5-liter air fryer, which you can see by clicking here: Severin air fryer.
