Cheesy gnocchi are one of my favorite first courses: they prepare in a few minutes and are delicious. We will cook them in an air fryer for a perfect gratin and even faster cooking, but you can also make them in the oven by increasing the cooking time (all methods are in the recipe).
You can choose whether to use already prepared potato gnocchi, as I did, or make them yourself. The result will be spectacular in any case: super cheesy, gratin, and very tasty. This dish is very easy to make, so it’s especially suitable if you have little time in the kitchen. In this case, we will make a simple plain sauce, but you can use one prepared beforehand or a ready-made one. It will still be perfect.
Let’s see together the steps to make these delicious cheesy potato gnocchi in an air fryer.

Ingredients
- 1.1 lbs potato gnocchi
- to taste salt
- 2 mozzarellas
- 1.4 oz grated parmesan
- 3.4 cups tomato puree
- Half onion
- to taste extra virgin olive oil
- to taste salt
Tools
- Air Fryer
Steps
First, let’s prepare the sauce. In a pot, pour a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil, add the finely chopped onion and let it brown. Then add the tomato puree and adjust with salt. Let it simmer on low heat for about half an hour.
Meanwhile, in another pot, bring salted water to a boil and add the gnocchi. After two minutes, or when they float, we can drain them. We put them in a bowl and toss them with the sauce, keeping a little aside for later. In the meantime, drain and pat dry the mozzarellas, then cut them into cubes.
Take a small baking dish of suitable size for the air fryer (mine is 20 cm) round or square. First, spread a layer of sauce on the bottom. On top, put the gnocchi, mozzarella, and parmesan. Make a second layer by putting gnocchi, sauce, mozzarella, more sauce, and a nice sprinkle of grated parmesan. Meanwhile, preheat the air fryer for 3 minutes at 392°F.
Transfer the dish directly to the air fryer and cook for about 7 minutes at 392°F. You can also bake it in a preheated oven at 356°F for 15 minutes.
Serve and enjoy the gnocchi while they’re hot and cheesy. Bon appétit.
Tips for you
You can use ready-made gnocchi or make them yourself.
I recommend preheating the air fryer, just 3 minutes at the temperature required for the recipe (i.e., 392°F). Gnocchi cooking time is between 5 and 7 minutes, or until the mozzarella is well melted.
For this recipe, I recommend using a baking dish (round or square) of a size suitable for your air fryer. The one I used is 20 cm and fits perfectly in fryers with a basket of at least 21-22 cm. Here’s the link to the baking dish.
✔ For this recipe, I used the air fryer COSORI Dual Blaze 6.4 L, with upper and lower heating elements. You can find it here: link.
