Here we are with a new recipe: Pasta with Yellow Cherry Tomatoes and Fresh Basil! An easy and quick dish to prepare, just the cooking time of the linguine, and lunch is served! It sounds like a TV show ad, but it’s really like that, as demonstrated by the video recipe with the step-by-step guide which is very short. It will show you the main steps to prepare this simple and quick pasta with yellow tomatoes that smells like summer!
Lately, I’ve been using a lot of the yellow cherry tomato for my recipes, from the Tzatziki Sauce served with a trio of tomatoes, to baked feta with cherry tomatoes and basil that I absolutely adored! I discovered that this yellow cherry tomato stays soft on the palate, rich in flavor, and creates a delightful yellow tomato sauce for simple dressings like for a pasta dish.
Indeed, I didn’t want to add other ingredients that could overpower its flavor. I minced some white onion, added a few fresh basil leaves from my balcony garden, and a good drizzle of extra virgin olive oil. Saying that the aroma was out of this world is an understatement, you should try this recipe and then comment if you liked it!!
Here are some other recipes I’ve prepared with yellow cherry tomatoes and not only, also the classic red cherry tomato or pachino. Each link is clickable and will take you directly to the recipe you choose to read.

- 1 Colander
- 1 Plate
- 1 Small bowl
Steps for the Recipe Pasta with Yellow Cherry Tomatoes and Fresh Basil
We start by boiling a large pot of water, the preparation of this main course is very simple and quick, just the cooking time of the pasta! In the meantime, let’s focus on the yellow cherry tomatoes, wash them under running water and place them on a wooden cutting board.
With a knife, cut all the cherry tomatoes in half and transfer them to a small plate. Finely chop some white onion and place it in a small bowl. Pour a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil into a non-stick pan and add the chopped onion to sauté it.
When the onion is well softened, we can add the yellow cherry tomatoes. Take some fresh basil leaves, wash them quickly, and add them to the pan to flavor the cherry tomatoes. Let them cook over medium-low heat for a few minutes, stirring with a wooden spoon.
When the water in the pot comes to a boil, we will throw in the linguine or the type of pasta you prefer. I recommend a long pasta, which I think goes great with this type of sauce. Cook the pasta according to the package instructions minus one minute, which we will use to toss the pasta with the yellow cherry tomatoes in the pan. In my case, it said 11 minutes, so 10 minutes of cooking in salted boiling water.
Drain the pasta and, without turning off the heat of the pan with the yellow cherry tomatoes, we will toss it. Mix with the sauce, if you can toss using the pan handle as seen in the video recipe above the list of ingredients. We are then ready to plate. With a ladle and tongs, I created the classic pasta tower and portioned into two plates.
Sprinkle with some grated cheese and serve the pasta with yellow cherry tomatoes and the scent of basil. All that’s left is to wish you bon appétit and remind you that I’ll see you every morning on the blog with many easy, quick, and delicious recipes like this one!
If you are lactose intolerant, you can easily skip adding the grated cheese, the flavor of this main dish of pasta with yellow cherry tomatoes will not change at all.
Tips and Variations for Pasta with Yellow Cherry Tomatoes
I recommend not overcooking the yellow cherry tomatoes, you risk the skin coming off the pulp. Many people do not like tomato skin and leave it on the plate. I recommend using fresh basil to highlight this dish, dried and crushed basil doesn’t have the same taste and flavor in my opinion.
Possible variations: add other ingredients, to your taste and liking. I have already mentioned you can enrich it with natural tuna, smoked salmon, also add another variety of cherry tomato. You can then choose an additional ingredient like Greek feta or another type of cheese that does not release too much water during cooking in the pan.
