Basmati Rice

Basmati rice is a variety of rice originally from India and Pakistan with a white, slender grain, fragrant and delicate.

It has been cultivated for hundreds of years and used to accompany spicy dishes with meat, fish, and vegetables. It is not suitable for preparing risottos or soups, although it finds some use as a main dish seasoned with almond crumbs, vegetables, or tofu or with shrimp curry. Its function is similar to that of bread. Its popularity is due to its low lipid content, high digestibility, being gluten-free, and naturally pleasant taste without seasoning. However, it is sublime dressed with lemon, cinnamon, cloves, black pepper, or flavored with coconut milk, as when it is seasoned to accompany curry chicken. Its preparation requires some care to achieve a perfect dish with intact, well-separated, and fragrant grains.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Basmati rice
  • 1.5 cups water
  • salt

Basmati Rice Preparation

  • Rinse the rice by placing it in a colander under running water until the water runs clear, then pour everything into a bowl, cover the rice with water, and let it soak for at least half an hour.

  • Bring the water required by the recipe to a boil for cooking the rice (that is, one and a half cups for each cup of rice) in a thick-bottomed pot.
Add the rice, adjust the salt, and cover the pot with a lid.

  • Let it cook for three minutes over high heat, then lower the heat and let it cook for another ten minutes without removing the lid, so that the steam created in the pot contributes to cooking the rice.
Once the cooking time is up, turn off the heat without removing the lid and wait for your basmati rice to cool before serving it.
