Burger Buns without Butter and Eggs

The burger buns without butter and eggs, known in English as burger buns, are classic soft, round buns with sesame seeds on top, reminiscent of fast-food buns. The preparation is not difficult, and they can be made in a bowl by hand or, as I did, with a stand mixer. For the first part, where liquids are added, you can use the paddle attachment, while with the addition of flour, you can use the dough hook. Then let the dough rise for at least 4 hours, shape your buns into a round form, slightly flatten them with your hands, place them on a baking tray lined with parchment paper, and let them rise again for about 40 minutes/1 hour. In the end, bake them. Add whatever you prefer, I usually prepare them with chicken burgers, lettuce, tomatoes, and cheddar cheese. If you like leavened products, you can also try:

  • 1 1/2 cups Manitoba flour
  • 1 1/4 tsp dry yeast
  • 1 3/4 tsp salt

  • 1 tsp honey
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 3/4 cup whole milk
  • 7 tbsp water

Steps to make burger buns without butter and eggs

  • To prepare the burger buns without butter and eggs, first place the warm milk, sugar, honey, and dry yeast in the mixing bowl of the stand mixer. Turn the mixer on. Gradually add the flour and water at low speed and let absorb. Then add the corn oil and salt and continue working the dough. It should become soft.

  • Now place the dough in a large bowl greased with a little oil. Let it rise for at least 4 hours. If possible, let it rise in the oven turned off with the light on, at least until it doubles.

  • After the rising time, place the dough on a floured work surface and divide it into 6 pieces, each weighing about 5.3 oz. If you prefer, you can make them smaller. Shape into rounds and roll the dough balls.

  • Slightly flatten them with your hands and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Then brush them with a bit of milk and cover the surface with sesame seeds. Let them rise again for 40 minutes/1 hour.

  • Now turn on the static oven and preheat it to 356°F. Bake them for about 15 minutes. Remove your burger buns and let them cool slightly. Now cut them in half and fill them as you prefer.

Storage and tips

You can store the burger buns for up to 2 days. Put them in an airtight container or in appropriate food bags.

If you want them shinier, you can brush them with beaten egg yolk with milk.

  • Can I use butter instead of corn oil?

    Yes, of course
