Homemade Condensed Milk, as I was posting the recipe for my delicious camy cream, I realized I hadn’t yet shared the condensed milk recipe. It’s super easy to make, perfect for your sweet recipes or to enjoy as is for an energy boost. If you want to store it, I recommend sealing it in a sterile glass jar to keep in the refrigerator.
The unique aroma of condensed milk comes from the nearly caramelized cooking of sugar that melts into the milk, combined with vanilla, truly mouth-watering even during cooking.
Adding a bit of cornstarch allows the condensed milk to thicken better without altering the taste.
The use of condensed milk in pastry is widespread, especially in making creams and ice creams, but using it simply on rusks or good toasted bread already makes it a delicious dessert without further processing.
Condensed milk can also be used in making breakfast sweets like ring cakes, so you don’t have to worry if you have leftovers after use. Add it to any cake batter and it will enhance all your flavors.

Ingredients
- 2 tbsps butter
- 1 cup sugar
- cup milk
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch (heaping)
- to taste vanilla flavor (or vanilla sugar)
Tools
For boiling condensed milk for at least 10 minutes, I recommend using a saucepan with high sides.
- 1 Saucepan
- 1 Spatula
Preparation
Start making the condensed milk by mixing sugar and cornstarch in the saucepan. Add part of the milk and mix well to make everything smooth and lump-free. Once smooth, add the remaining milk and butter and place on high heat until it reaches a boil. Once it boils, lower the heat and stir often to prevent the milk from spilling over. It should simmer for 10 minutes, no less. You can add the vanilla flavor before or after cooking; perhaps adding it afterward keeps the flavor stronger.
You can see the entire process in the video.
NOTES
When the condensed milk is well chilled, you can use it or store it in the refrigerator in a glass jar with a lid for a few days. Before using the glass jar with a lid, boil them for a few minutes and let them dry well.
