Chicken with Coarse Salt

The chicken with coarse salt is a simple and equally delightful variation of roasted chicken. This recipe was one of my grandmother’s specialties, an economical, easy, and quick recipe suitable for everyone!

To make the chicken with salt, you need to pour coarse salt into a baking dish and a chicken (whole, but if too large, better to cut it in half). The weight of the salt should be double the weight of the chicken. You can also add herbs: I usually use rosemary and garlic, but you can add the ones you like the most. Once cooked in the oven, you can cut and serve the chicken on the table.

This is a healthy recipe also suitable for those following a balanced diet because the baking process uses salt without adding fats, and it forms a really delicious crust around the chicken!

The chicken with coarse salt is ideal for adults and children, especially when accompanied by tasty potatoes!

Chicken with Coarse Salt
  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Cost: Economical
  • Preparation time: 5 Minutes
  • Portions: 4People
  • Cooking methods: Oven

Ingredients

  • 2.2 lbs whole chicken
  • 4.4 lbs coarse salt
  • 1 sprig rosemary
  • 1 clove garlic

Tools

  • Baking Dish

Steps

  • To make chicken with coarse salt, clean the chicken and pass it over a flame to remove any feathers.

  • With aluminum foil, I recommend covering the wings and the ends of the drumsticks.

  • Take a baking dish and spread the coarse salt evenly, and place rosemary (previously washed) and garlic (including peel) on top.

  • Then place the chicken on the salt, if the chicken is too large I recommend cutting it in half.

  • Bake in the preheated oven at 392°F for about an hour, until golden, turning it halfway through cooking.

  • Once cooked, remove it from the baking dish, remove any salt that may have stuck to the meat, cut the chicken and serve it hot. Enjoy your meal!
