The milk braid with an air fryer can be made conveniently and easily. This air oven is full of resources to exploit, including bread. I bake a very soft milk braid every week with my Cosori air fryer, 5.5 liters with one resistance, and I must say that before trying to make bread, I was a bit skeptical, but I found out that everything is possible.
Below I write the recipe for the milk braid and the process, really very easy, suitable for everyone, even those who are not very skilled in the kitchen. You’ll make a great impression even on the holiday table, for kids’ snacks, or for breakfast.
- Difficulty: Very easy
- Cost: Very inexpensive
- Rest time: 3 Hours
- Preparation time: 10 Minutes
- Portions: about 1.1 lbs
- Cooking methods: Air frying
- Cuisine: Italian
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3.5 oz milk (can be replaced with plant-based milk)
- 2 tbsp butter (can be replaced with margarine)
- 0.4 oz fresh yeast
- 1 egg (+ one yolk to brush the bread)
- 1 tsp honey (can be replaced with sugar)
- 1 tsp fine salt
- A few pinches sesame seeds (to taste)
Steps
In a bowl put the lukewarm milk with the honey, dissolve in it the crumbled fresh yeast and let it activate for 5 minutes. Then add the egg, beat with a fork, and add the softened butter at room temperature.
Pour the flour, the salt, and mix the dough in the bowl. Knead until it becomes smooth and compact. Place the dough mass in the bowl, cover it, and let it rise until doubled, it will take about 2 hours.
Take the risen dough and place it on a floured surface. Divide it into 3 equal parts and form three cylinders about 16 inches long. Join the three ends together and form the classic braid, placing it on a sheet of baking paper or floured mat, the size of the air fryer basket.
Cover the milk braid with a container that is most convenient for you and let it rise on the work surface for another 40 minutes to 1 hour.
After the second rising phase, brush the bread with beaten egg yolk and sprinkle with sesame seeds (to taste). Meanwhile, preheat the air fryer to 356°F for 4 minutes.
At this point place the mat with the bread braid in the fryer basket and cook at 356°F for 13 minutes.
After 13 minutes, open the basket, gently turn the braid, and continue cooking for another 13 minutes at 356°F.
Finally, turn the braid again and finish browning for another 4 minutes still at 356°F.
At this point the bread is ready, you can remove it from the oven, let it cool before slicing.
