MINI CALZONES with Air Fryer

Here we are with mini calzones using an air fryer, another easy recipe to make with this fantastic appliance that makes food lighter than frying in oil. Like every air fryer recipe, they can also be made in a traditional oven or in oil.

With these amounts, you will get 8 mini calzones of 5 inches, half the classic fried calzone, and today we will fill them with mozzarella and cooked ham, my nephew’s favorites. But feel free to fill them as you like, with mozzarella and tomato, vegetables and sausage, ricotta and walnuts, etc.

  • Difficulty: Very Easy
  • Cost: Very Economical
  • Rest time: 2 Hours
  • Preparation time: 10 Minutes
  • Portions: 8 Pieces
  • Cooking methods: Air Frying
  • Cuisine: Italian

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup water (warm)
  • 2 tsp olive oil
  • 2 1/4 tsp fresh yeast
  • 1 tsp fine salt
  • 1/4 tsp sugar
  • 5 oz mozzarella
  • 3 slices cooked ham
  • as needed sunflower oil (for spraying)

Steps

  • In a bowl, first put all the liquid ingredients: warm water, sugar, olive oil, and dissolve the fresh yeast in it. Add the flour and knead the dough, then let it rise until doubled, covered (it will take about 2 hours).

After the rising time, take the dough and divide it into 8 parts, make balls and press them on the work surface, forming a disk about 5 inches in diameter.

Place the chopped mozzarella and chopped cooked ham in the center.

  • Close the edges of the mini calzone by sealing them well and arrange them in an oiled pan, suitable for your air fryer. I used a round one and can fit 3 at a time.

Spray the calzones with sunflower oil.

  • Meanwhile, preheat the air fryer to 392°F for 5 minutes.

Cook the calzones at 392°F for 10 minutes. It is important that after 5 minutes of cooking, you turn them in the pan and finish cooking them for the remaining 5 minutes.
