RUSTIC PIZZA with Tuna and Peppers

in , ,

For Christmas Eve, I made a rustic pizza with tuna and peppers that shines like a star on the table. But this is just one of the many shapes you can give to rustic pizza. If you don’t have a star-shaped mold, decorate it with lots of little puff pastry stars cut out with a cookie cutter.
It’s also an economical recipe, the rustic pizza with tuna and peppers is easy to make, quick, and tasty, sure to be a hit on special occasions and all year round, serving it as both an appetizer and a main dish. A bit like the Easter pie that we can make whenever we want.

  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Cost: Economical
  • Preparation time: 30 Minutes
  • Portions: 10 People
  • Cooking methods: Oven
  • Cuisine: Italian

Ingredients

  • 1.1 lbs potatoes
  • 7 oz canned tuna in oil (drained – 2 cans of 5.6 oz each)
  • 2 bell peppers (1 red and 1 yellow)
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 2 eggs (whole)
  • 3 fillets anchovies in oil
  • 2 tbsps Parmesan (grated or Grana Padano)
  • 1 sheet puff pastry (round for the star shape or rectangular)
  • 1/2 tsp fine salt
  • to taste garlic powder and ground black pepper
  • black olives (for decoration)

Tools

  • 1 Potato masher

Steps

  • Roast the bell peppers in the oven at 428°F until charred. You can also char them over a cast iron grill on the stove. Then peel them, remove the seeds inside and cut off the ends.
Finely chop the peppers with a sharp knife and set them aside.

  • Meanwhile, boil the potatoes with their skins on.
When cooked, drain and peel them. Then mash them and place them in a bowl.

  • In the bowl with the mashed potatoes, add the chopped peppers, drained and flaked tuna, chopped anchovies, eggs beaten with milk, and grated Parmesan.
Mix the mixture and add a pinch of garlic powder, ground black pepper, and half a teaspoon of salt. Taste the mixture and adjust the salt as needed.
Let it rest for 10 minutes to allow the ingredients’ flavors to blend together.

Unroll the puff pastry and after greasing the baking dish, place it inside the mold.
Pour in the prepared mixture and level it well, then fold the edges of the puff pastry over themselves. Finally, decorate with some black olives.

  • Preheat the oven to 356°F static, or 338°F fan, and bake for about 40 minutes or until the pastry is golden.
Turn off the oven and leave the door slightly open, wait about half an hour before taking out the Christmas star.
Let the pie cool slightly before removing it from the dish and serve it; it’s good both hot and cold.
