The gnocchi with sausage ragù is a rich first course with a unique and unmistakable flavor. Gnocchi with ragù is among the classics of Italian cuisine and among the most loved dishes, both by adults and children.
Like all traditional recipes, each of us sticks to the family recipe. What I propose today is the recipe that my grandmother and mother have always made. The ragù is made with homemade tomato sauce, a mixture of onion, celery, and carrots, and minced meat. Crumbled sausage is also added to the ragù, giving the dish more taste.
These gnocchi with ragù are delicious and hearty, ideal for Sunday lunch or special occasions.

- 9 oz minced meat
- 2 sausages
- 21 oz Tomato sauce
- 1 Onion
- 1 Celery stalk

To make the gnocchi, boil the peeled potatoes in salted water, once cooked, drain them and pass them through a potato masher while still hot, letting them fall into a large bowl. Salt the potatoes, then add the egg, flour, and knead until you get a homogeneous and smooth dough.
Then transfer the obtained mixture to a pastry board or work surface, use your hands to form rolls and cut them into small cylinders, the gnocchi.
Wash and trim the carrots and celery, and cut them into small cubes. Chop the onion. Peel and crumble the sausages.
In a pan, pour a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil, heat it, and then add the chopped onion, carrots, and celery.
Let them soften for 10 minutes over low heat, then add the minced meat and sausages, and let them brown.
Lastly, add the tomato sauce, add water until it completely covers the sauce. Cook over moderate heat, stirring occasionally. Salt at the end of cooking.
Cook the gnocchi in salted boiling water, and as soon as they rise to the surface, drain them and pour them into the pan with the ragù. Stir gently to mix them well with the sauce.
Serve hot with a sprinkle of grated cheese. Enjoy your meal!
