The apple pie is the perfect dessert to celebrate the arrival of autumn! Apple pie is an American cake with a fragrant filling of apples and spices. To make it, you will need to prepare a dough similar to our shortcrust pastry, using: flour, butter, sugar, salt, water, and eggs. For the filling, the apples will be flavored with cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. The uniqueness of this cake, besides its unmistakable taste, is the decoration, because you can unleash your creativity and let your imagination run wild.

Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups Flour
- 1 stick Butter
- 1 Egg
- 1 tsp Salt
- 2 tbsps Sugar
- 3 tbsps Water
- 6 cups Apples
- 1/2 cup Sugar
- 1 tsp Cinnamon
- 1 tsp Nutmeg
- Lemon juice
- 1 Egg
- as needed Sugar
Preparation
To make the apple pie, in a large bowl or with the help of a stand mixer, pour the flour, sugar, and salt. Mix and add the cold butter cut into cubes, knead until you get a crumbly mixture. Then incorporate one egg, previously beaten, and the cold water. Blend the ingredients until you get a smooth and homogeneous mixture. Divide the dough into two equal parts and wrap each piece in plastic wrap. Let it rest for an hour in the refrigerator.
Meanwhile, prepare the filling. Wash and core the apples, peel them and cut them into thin slices. In a bowl, combine the apples with the sugar, then add the cinnamon, nutmeg, and the juice of a lemon. Mix everything well with a spoon.
Butter a 9-inch diameter baking pan. On a floured surface, with the help of a rolling pin, roll out the first piece of dough until you get a round shape larger than the baking pan, about 1/4 inch thick.
Wrap the dough around a rolling pin and line the baking pan with it, trim the edges and cut off the excess dough. Pour the apples into the baking pan and let rest in the fridge.
Roll out the other piece of dough, proceeding in the same manner. At this point, you can proceed with your preferred decoration. In this case, I used flower-shaped cutters of different sizes, removing the dough flowers (setting them aside) to create flower-shaped holes in the dough. Take the baking pan out of the fridge and cover the apples with the dough, refining the edges well and removing excess dough.
With the remaining dough, create small leaves that will be placed around the edge of the cake and decorate the cake with the flowers set aside previously.
Brush the surface of the apple pie, and the decorations, with the beaten egg and sprinkle with sugar.Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F, the first 20 minutes covered with aluminum foil, then remove it and bake for another 20-25 minutes, until golden. Once cooked, remove from the oven and let cool. Enjoy your meal!
