I love roasted chestnuts, how can anyone resist roasted chestnuts when shopping in the fall? Here in the Netherlands, I dream of roasted chestnuts, but fortunately, this year I found some beautiful chestnuts, so I decided to roast them in my air fryer!

I read about this method a couple of years ago, both in various Facebook groups where people discuss how to use this very useful appliance, and on the internet, where I even found some videos in German where chestnuts are called not marroni but: “maroni”… I won’t say more!
I tried to make them in the simplest way possible: no soaking in water, no salt… just two small cuts and into my Airfryer. The roasted chestnuts in the air fryer come out simply wonderful, and nothing gets dirty! Let’s prepare them…

Ingredients
- 15 chestnuts

Tools

- Air Fryer
- Air Fryer
Preparation
First, score the chestnuts on the more rounded side to create a cross (but a single horizontal cut also works for me). However, with the cross-cut, they look prettier because the shell opens up like flower petals!
Preheat the air fryer to 392°F (200°C) and place the chestnuts directly in the basket with the cut side up. Set the timer for 18 minutes, which is enough for 15 chestnuts.
If you need to roast more chestnuts, I suggest not stacking them in the basket; it’s better to cook them in batches. During cooking, there’s no need to shake the basket. Taste one chestnut, and if the shell comes off easily and the chestnut is soft inside, then the cooking is done.
And here our roasted chestnuts in the air fryer are ready! The house had a lovely aroma, and I struggled to take pictures because my instinct was just screaming: eat them all now!
How delicious they are, and nothing gets dirty! The Dutchman tried one and commented that he likes his chestnuts raw: he’s a barbarian, there’s nothing to do about it! But then, after I took the photos, when I offered him half, he immediately accepted and devoured them all without a word. See, and I wanted my roasted chestnuts all to myself! Tomorrow I’ll buy more and make them, oh! Meanwhile, try making them like this and let me know…
Enjoy!
