Today, instead of Esselunga, I went shopping at Famila in the Cicogna area of San Lazzaro di Savena, a charming town near Bologna where Mayor Isabella Conti is running for mayor in my city. This supermarket has excellent fruit, a wide range of meats, and a nice fish counter where I picked up this squid steak that I then grilled.
I also picked up some wonderful plump sea breams and some sea bass fillets that I later baked with lots of vegetables!
The squid steak is a quick and low-calorie second course (68 kcal per 100 grams of product), especially when grilled, and it pairs perfectly with a fresh and simple side like cherry tomatoes with basil.
The squid, which is sometimes mistaken for calamari, is a bit less prized and is excellent cooked especially grilled, boiled in water with herbs, stewed perhaps with peas, sautéed in a pan, and even fried!

Grilled Squid Steak Recipe Preparation
For this very simple and low-calorie dish, I marinated the squid steaks in a container where I squeezed the lemon juice and added a few tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil and a minced garlic.
I let these thick slices of squid marinate for about an hour in the refrigerator and then left them at room temperature for about twenty minutes before cooking.
At the time of cooking, I placed the grill over the flame, heating it well and in the meantime, I scored with a sharp knife lines that intersect forming diamond shapes on the squid steak without actually cutting the steak.
When the grill is hot, I put the squid steak, drained from the marinade and blotted with kitchen paper, and let it cook for 6/7 minutes per side. Be careful… if we extend the cooking time, the squid steak will become rubbery and inedible!!
Proceed in the same way on the other side and finish cooking this seafood main course.
I served the squid steak with cherry tomatoes, washed and sliced into wedges, and served with oil, salt, pepper, and basil!
Enjoy your meal!
Annalisa
