Christmas Culinary Trees

Last month at Lidl I found a set of star-shaped molds and thinking of making shortcrust pastry trees with custard, I bought it instantly. Then as you can see, I opted for culinary Christmas trees following the trend of the savory panettone, the recipe of which is already on the blog in this article.

The preparation time for this Christmas appetizer is variable because you can use ready-made mousses or sauces or make them yourself …in short, time is relative, but it’s certain that they’ll be finished in a second because the sandwich bread is tender and appetizing, and it’s all very convivial!

I’ll just leave you with some of the possible sauces and mousses* that I personally would use to fill the Christmas trees with sandwich bread, but as always, the final decision is yours! Let’s get into the kitchen and prepare these delicious culinary trees….

CHRISTMAS CULINARY TREES
AS I
The kitchen of ASI

Culinary Trees
  • Difficulty: Very easy
  • Cost: Cheap
  • Preparation time: 20 Minutes
  • Portions: AS DESIRED
  • Cooking methods: No-cook
  • Cuisine: Italian
  • Seasonality: Christmas

Ingredients

  • 1 sandwich bread
  • as needed black olive pesto
  • as needed green olive pesto
  • as needed sun-dried tomato pesto
  • as needed capricciosa salad
  • as needed smoked salmon
  • as needed thin slices of smoked scamorza
  • as needed herbed cream cheese
  • as needed mortadella mousse
  • as needed cooked ham mousse
  • as needed lettuce
  • as needed various cold cuts

Preparation

  • Personally, I preferred to cut out all the various little stars first and then fill them. I used various pestos, smoked salmon, capricciosa salad, slices of scamorza, and herbed cream cheese.

  • To prepare the culinary trees, I think you have two options:

cut out each star with the size-scaled cutters, two for each different size,

or take the rectangular slice of sandwich bread, fill it with the desired sauce or mousse, cover the filling with another slice of sandwich bread, and only then cut out the different little stars that will already be filled and ready to be stacked to make the culinary trees.

I separated each filled double star, so to speak, from the others with a leaf of lettuce or lamb’s lettuce or arugula.

  • I skewered each Christmas culinary tree with these long Christmas-themed skewers and I must say that my big guy, aka my son, devoured them…

  • Keep in the fridge wrapping everything with plastic wrap to prevent the bread from drying out.

Enjoy your meal with the culinary trees!
