Custard Ice Cream Without Ice Cream Maker – Clever and Creamy Recipe

The ice cream is an ancient food, and some trace its origin back to the Bible when Isaac, offering Abraham goat milk mixed with fresh snow, created the first “eat and drink” in history. Others attribute its invention to the Romans who, with “nivatae potiones,” offered clients real frozen desserts.

It was in the 16th century in Florence that modern ice cream was invented with milk, cream, and eggs, and the first industrial ice cream was the Mottarello al fiordilatte dated 1948, shortly before the legendary Cornetto! Ice cream is certainly very appreciated in summer (also in winter to be honest, and many ice cream shops prepare delicious panettone filled with every flavor of artisanal ice cream, haha) by all of us, and even for children, ice cream is surely an ideal snack.

For the little ones, the only precaution is to give it to them after the age of two and in small doses to ensure there are no intolerances or allergies. We could divide ice cream into two categories: custard and fruit. The first ones contain the antioxidant vitamin factors from the fruit, while the second are richer thanks to the proteins of milk and eggs and also contain minerals, calcium, and phosphorus. From a calorie perspective, clearly, fruit ones contain fewer calories than custard ones… Now, however, enough information, and… let’s go to the kitchen to make homemade custard ice cream without an ice cream maker!

  • Small saucepan

Preparation CUSTARD ICE CREAM WITHOUT ICE CREAM MAKER

  • Place a container, preferably stainless steel, in the freezer to “chill.”

In a small saucepan, place milk and cream with the vanilla pod split in the center so the fragrant seeds can spread into the liquid.

  • Turn on the heat and, on moderate heat, bring to just before boiling, then turn off the heat. At the same time, whip the egg yolks with the sugar until pale and fluffy.

  • Pour the hot liquid over and mix well, combining everything.

Put back on the stove and continue over low heat for 5/6 minutes, stirring constantly and without letting the custard boil.

  • Let it cool completely.

  • Now pour this homemade ice cream liquid into the very cold stainless steel container you previously placed in the freezer.

  • Now put the custard ice cream without an ice cream maker in the freezer and leave it there for at least 3/4 hours, stirring every 30 minutes if possible.

  • Once churned and creamy, enjoy it with your family! Enjoy your custard ice cream without an ice cream maker

Tips and Notes

Making ice cream is an art, and in my humble way, this recipe is just a way to offer you a healthy product, but I would never claim it could be better than the artisan ice cream maker who has been preparing it for years… as those who have been reading me for a long time know, I don’t like to tell lies and nonsense!!

On the blog, you will find a very quick and creamy banana ice cream (change the fruit if you prefer and follow the same procedure, maybe adding yogurt or cream if you want it richer), a chocolate ice cream without an ice cream maker, strawberry popsicles and watermelon sorbet.
