Here’s a cute idea for Valentine’s Day: Red Heart Cookies. Perfect for this occasion or any that celebrates love.
They are great for serving either at breakfast or snack time.
- Difficulty: Easy
- Cost: Economical
- Rest time: 20 Minutes
- Preparation time: 10 Minutes
- Portions: 8
- Cooking methods: Oven
- Cuisine: Italian
- Seasonality: Valentine's Day
Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 egg
- 5 tbsps butter (at room temperature)
- 3 tbsps sugar
- 1 packet vanillin
- to taste strawberry jam (or another red-colored jam)
Tools
- Cookie cutters
Steps
To prepare the red heart cookies, start by placing the sifted flour, diced butter, sugar, egg, and vanillin packet in a bowl. Mix everything, kneading vigorously by hand. Alternatively, you can use a stand mixer with a K-hook. Combine all the ingredients in a bowl and knead.
Work until you get a smooth and homogeneous dough. At this point, cover it with plastic wrap and let it rest in the fridge for 20 minutes.
After this time, dust a work surface with flour and roll out the dough to a thickness of about half an inch. Cut the cookies with heart-shaped cutters.
With your fingers, gently press in the center of the cookies to form a heart. Insert the strawberry jam, or another flavor of your choice that is red. Place the cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F for 10-12 minutes. Center rack.
Once baked, let them cool completely before consuming.
PS. I made the mistake of baking them on the lower rack of the oven and burnt them underneath. Make sure not to repeat my mistake, eh 😀 .
