The red apple and walnut cake is a somewhat rustic cake if we want to define it as such, one of those desserts that is not always appreciated by the new generations, but that still feels like home and if you like it, it is ideal to enjoy with a cup of hot tea in the afternoon.
Of course, if you do not have red apples, yellow ones are also fine, the result will be delicious in either case.

Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 3 eggs
- 6 tbsp butter
- 2/3 cup milk
- 1 lemon
- 3 apples
- 3/4 cup walnuts (chopped)
- 1 packet baking powder
Steps
To prepare the red apple and walnut cake, start by washing the apples. Take one, while setting the other two aside for now. Peel it and dice it after removing the core. Put the diced apple in a bowl and add the juice of one lemon. Set aside and proceed to work on the rest of the ingredients. Melt the butter in a double boiler or in the microwave for about 8/10 seconds, then pour it into a large bowl. Add the sugar and the 3 eggs, then work with the whisks to mix the ingredients well. Add the flour, and while you continue to work, pour the milk in a thin stream. Finally, add the sifted baking powder and work until you get a homogeneous mixture.
Now add the chopped walnuts and the previously diced apple, along with the remaining lemon juice at the bottom. Mix everything well with a spoon or spatula.
Flour and butter a round mold with a diameter of about 8 or 9 inches, then pour the mixture inside.
Take now the two apples you set aside at the beginning, decide whether to peel them or not (it’s up to taste), remove the core and cut them into slices. Arrange the slices in a radial pattern on the cake, then bake at 350°F for 45/50 minutes. Always do the toothpick test before removing from the oven.
Let it cool completely before removing from the mold. Dust with powdered sugar if you like and serve.
