Bruschetta with Figs, Prosciutto, and Balsamic Sauce

I was preparing another recipe with figs, and while I was working on it, I got the idea to make a delicious bruschetta with figs. I’m telling you, this appetizer is uniquely delicious and might become addictive. It’s one of those treats you absolutely must try.

  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Cost: Economical
  • Preparation time: 10 Minutes
  • Portions: 4
  • Cooking methods: Stove
  • Cuisine: Italian
  • Seasonality: Autumn

Ingredients

  • 4 slices rustic bread
  • 4 figs
  • 4 slices prosciutto
  • 1/3 cup balsamic vinegar
  • 1/3 cup red wine
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon honey

Steps

  • To prepare the fig bruschetta, start by making the balsamic vinegar sauce. In a stainless steel saucepan, pour the balsamic vinegar, wine, sugar, and honey. Transfer the saucepan to the stove over medium heat and bring to a boil. Stir often and let it boil for about 4 minutes. The liquid should reduce to about half of the initial amount, but it should not gel. Judge if it needs to cook for a few more or fewer minutes. Turn off the heat and let it cool slightly.
Meanwhile, toast the bread slices on both sides in a skillet or on a griddle.

Once ready, top with a slice of prosciutto and a fig cut into slices a little less than a quarter of an inch thick. Use a teaspoon to drizzle a few drops of balsamic sauce on top and serve at the table.
