Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 egg
- 6 tbsp butter (at room temperature)
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1 pinch salt
- 1/3 cup dark chocolate chips
Tools
- Ice Cream Scoop
- Baking Tray
- Parchment Paper
- Stand Mixer
Steps
To prepare American cookies, start by taking the butter out of the fridge and let it sit at room temperature for about ten minutes. Meanwhile, prepare all the other ingredients and preheat the static oven to 350°F.
Then start the preparation by putting the diced butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract into the bowl of the stand mixer. (Alternatively, use vanilla essence or vanilla flavoring).
Attach the beater (K) and mix at speed 3 until you obtain a soft and homogeneous mixture. At this point, add an egg, baking soda, and a pinch of salt. Start the mixer again. Once the egg is incorporated, add the flour. Mix until you obtain a homogeneous mixture.
Remove the bowl from the mixer and add the chocolate chips to the dough. Stir with a spoon evenly.
Place a sheet of parchment paper on a low baking tray. Use an ice cream scoop, preferably with a spring mechanism, and scoop a ball of dough. Release the ball on the parchment paper. Continue until the dough is finished. However, be careful to space the balls well as they will flatten during baking, taking on the classic cookie shape.
Bake and cook for 10/12 minutes at 350°F. After the time, the cookies will be soft and slightly golden. Take them out of the oven and let them cool. Only then will they be crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside.
Tips and Storage
If you don’t have an ice cream scoop, a regular tablespoon will do. It’s important to scoop about the size of a ping-pong ball for each cookie.
If you don’t have a stand mixer, you can also knead by hand using a spoon.
