The Christmas Tree of Sandwiches with Ham and Mushrooms is a simple, quick, and spectacular appetizer perfect for the Christmas and holiday season. For this recipe, you will need a pack of long slices of sandwich bread, cooked ham, mayonnaise, and mushrooms. I chose canned sautéed champignon mushrooms, drained and chopped them, but you can keep them whole if you prefer. This appetizer can also be prepared in advance, even the day before, but it must be kept in the refrigerator, well covered with plastic wrap, otherwise the slices of bread will dry out. Steps to Make the Christmas Tree of Sandwiches with Ham and Mushrooms
To prepare the Christmas Tree of Sandwiches with Ham and Mushrooms, first lay out plastic wrap on a work surface and place a long slice of sandwich bread on top, roll out the slice thinly with the help of a rolling pin, then spread mayonnaise over the entire slice, place the cooked ham on top, and then the mushrooms. I used ready-made canned mushrooms, drained them well and chopped them not too finely with the help of a mixer, but if you want, you can use them whole.
With the help of the plastic wrap, tightly roll the bread onto itself and seal it as if it were a candy. It needs to be well fixed. Continue in this way for all remaining slices of bread. When the rolls are ready, let them rest in the refrigerator for about 1 hour.
After resting, take them out, remove the plastic wrap, and cut the bread rolls into slices with the help of a knife, cutting 5 slices of bread for each roll. When you are finished, arrange the sandwich swirls; I placed 8 on the bottom, 3 in the center, 5 on top of them, then 4, and then the final ones to form the tree.
To finish, I created a star with Asiago cheese, placed it on a toothpick, and set it in the center of the last swirl. Now your Christmas Tree of Sandwiches with Ham and Mushrooms is ready to be served! Beautiful and, above all, delicious!
Storage and Tips
You can store the swirls in the refrigerator for a couple of days in an airtight container.
