Pastina with Potatoes and Peas, a simple and delicious comfort food
Pastina with potatoes and peas is a genuine, comforting, and truly irresistible recipe. It is quick to prepare and always delights the whole family. During winter, I love bringing warm and cozy dishes to the table like passatelli in broth or lentil and potato soup, and this pastina is undoubtedly one of my favorite comfort foods.
Its uniqueness lies in the cooking method, the pastina is cooked directly with the potatoes and peas, in a broth that gives it a unique creaminess and a full, enveloping flavor.

Ingredients
- 2 potatoes (medium)
- 1/2 onion
- 4.2 oz peas
- 4 cups vegetable broth
- to taste salt
- to taste pepper
- 8.5 oz pastina
- 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
How to make pastina with potatoes and peas
Wash and peel the potatoes, then cut them into small and even cubes. Set them aside for later.
Slice the onion thinly and add it to the saucepan with a splash of olive oil, letting the onion soften for about 4-5 minutes.
At this point, add the previously cut potatoes along with the peas, and season with salt and pepper.
Continue cooking on a gentle heat, adding the already hot vegetable broth for about 5-6 minutes.
Let it simmer and then add the pasta, cooking it for the time indicated on the package. Stir occasionally, and if needed, add more hot broth.
At the end of cooking, plate immediately and serve with extra virgin olive oil and a sprinkle of black pepper.
Tips on making pastina with potatoes and peas
If using vegetable broth, be careful with the seasoning to avoid making the dish too salty or flavorful. Alternatively, you can use hot water instead of broth.
Mushrooms and pumpkin also pair well with peas and potatoes to make the dish even richer.
