Ingredients for 4 people

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 5 tbsp butter
  • 0.4 cups powdered sugar

Tools

  • 1 Bowl
  • 1 Spoon
  • 1 Scale
  • 1 Cookie Cutters

Procedure

Here are the steps to follow to get delicious decorated Christmas cookies, perfect for giving as gifts or serving during family celebrations.

  • First, separate the egg yolks from the whites. With the leftover whites, I suggest making some delicious homemade meringues.

    eggs
  • Now put the flour, powdered sugar, and softened butter (at room temperature for 20-30 minutes) in a bowl.

Mix the ingredients with your fingers until you get a crumbly dough. At this point, add the egg yolks and complete the dough quickly.

    flour for mixing
  • Form a dough patty and wrap it in plastic wrap. Let it rest in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.

  • Roll out the dough thinly, about 1/10 inch thick. Use cookie cutters to shape typical Christmas cookie figures.

With the leftover dough, re-knead and cut out more shapes until the dough is used up.

    Whole wheat shortcrust pastry
  • It’s time to bake the Christmas cookies in a static oven at 356°F for 10-12 minutes.

Allow the cookies to cool on a wire rack. The cookies can be stored for 1 month in an airtight tin box.

  • Finally, if you want to make decorated Christmas cookies to give as gifts, prepare the royal icing with the leftover egg whites. Alternatively, you can find colored tubes in stores to make your cookies unique.

  • The tubes have a fine tip and are perfect for starting to make the first decorations. To avoid mistakes, follow the outer edges first and then fill the interior with balls or dots.

Once you are familiar with the tubes (or the pastry bag), you can try making freehand decorations.

    Your Christmas cookies are ready!
