Savoy cabbage with Renetta apples, a tasty side dish and very simple for those who, like us, want to eat something tasty and warm.

A simple side dish that thanks to the taste of the apples pairs perfectly, for example, with chicken cutlets even prepared in the oven.

You can also prepare it in advance and keep it in the refrigerator well covered inside a container to then heat it for a few minutes in a pan or in the microwave to be advantaged at dinner time.

Ingredients for savoy cabbage with apples

  • 1 savoy cabbage
  • 3 Renetta apples
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 pinch salt
  • to taste black pepper
  • 5 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • to taste apple cider vinegar

Preparation of savoy cabbage with Renetta apples

  • To prepare the savoy cabbage with Renetta apples, start by removing the core from the apples, peel them, and cut them into more or less thin slices.
    Slice the savoy cabbage into thin strips and set aside temporarily.

  • In a fairly large high-sided pan, heat the extra virgin olive oil together with the garlic clove with skin on for a few seconds then toss in the apple slices and let them stew for 3 minutes.

  • Add the cabbage, mix well to flavor, let stew for another 3 or 4 minutes then add a splash of apple cider vinegar, salt, and stirring bring to cooking now on low heat.

  • Cooking the savoy cabbage will take very little time, when you see everything becoming transparent taste the texture of the cabbage, it should not be crunchy but neither too soft.

  • Once cooking is complete, season with a nice grind of black pepper, let it cool slightly and serve bringing it to the table in a salad bowl and..

Advice, storage, and variations

Savoy cabbage with apples is also good cold but not straight from the fridge, in my house, some people like to season it with a teaspoon of mustard before eating, try it too.

It keeps in the refrigerator for 2 days well sealed in an airtight container.
