Ingredients for the Cabbage Side Dish

  • 1.76 lbs cabbage
  • 1 white onion (medium)
  • to taste extra virgin olive oil
  • to taste salt
  • 1 to taste pepper
  • 1/3 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup sesame seeds

How to prepare Oriental Cabbage

  • Clean the cabbage by removing 2-3 outer leaves. Cut the leaves into strips, removing the harder core parts. Place the cabbage in a colander and wash it under running water. Let it drain.

  • Pour 3-4 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil into a pan, add the thinly sliced onion and the cabbage. Add a pinch of salt. Stir and cover the pan with a lid. Let it cook over medium heat for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  • Meanwhile, in a small pan, toast the sesame seeds over medium heat for about a minute. This way the sesame will release all its aromas and flavors. When the cabbage is cooked, turn off the heat and add the soy sauce, sesame seeds, and a pinch of pepper. Stir and serve
