Baked chickpea chips are a healthy, gluten-free snack, perfect for those moments of hunger when you crave something tasty and light, or for an appetizer with friends. To prepare this recipe, you only need a few ingredients, including chickpea flour, water, and tomato paste to add a touch of color. In my version, I’ve also added some spices: smoked paprika and garlic powder, but you can use other spices or herbs to your liking.
Preparing this tasty snack is really simple, but there’s a very important step to get crispy and crunchy chips: spreading the dough as thin as possible. I also recommend shaping the round chips before baking, rather than spreading the dough in a single layer and cutting it later. I’ve tried both methods, and the first one is definitely more effective and practical. If you’re curious to find out how to make them, then read the recipe because the baked chickpea chips will be ready in a click!

Ingredients
- 1 1/8 cups chickpea flour
- 1 1/3 cups water
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1 3/4 tbsp tomato paste
- extra virgin olive oil (as needed)
- salt (as needed)
Tools
- Bowl
- Whisk
- Saucepan
- Baking Tray
- Parchment Paper
Steps
First, pour the water and salt into a saucepan and bring to a boil. Meanwhile, put the flour in a bowl along with the paprika, garlic powder, and tomato paste. Of course, you can choose the spices you prefer.
As soon as the water reaches a boil, pour it into the bowl and stir with a whisk until all the ingredients are well combined and you get a smooth and fluid batter. Line a tray with parchment paper and spoon the mixture into small mounds. Flatten as thin as possible with the back of a spoon, giving the classic chip shape. Add a little oil on the surface and a bit of salt and bake in a preheated oven at 392°F with fan function for 10 minutes.
Remove the chips from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes. Then separate them from the parchment paper and serve.
